Stargate x Hayabusa FAQ

 General

What is Stargate?

Stargate is VeChain’s next-generation staking platform launched alongside the Hayabusa upgrade. It lets users stake VET to mint staking NFTs, delegate them to validators, and earn VTHO rewards while supporting network decentralization.

What is Hayabusa?

Hayabusa is the hard fork that introduces Delegated Proof of Stake (DPoS) to the VeChainThor network. It enables validator-based consensus and lets any user participate via staking and delegation.

What changed with Hayabusa?

VeChainThor moved to a DPoS model with 101 validators responsible for producing blocks. You now earn rewards by delegating your staking NFT to an active validator.

Do I need to take action as a current node holder?

Yes. If you’ve migrated your node to Stargate, you need to delegate your NFT to a validator via the Stargate app to keep earning rewards.

Migration

Can I migrate my Economic or X Node to Stargate?

Yes. You can migrate directly from Stargate. Your legacy node NFT is burned, your VET is hard-staked, and a new Stargate-compatible NFT is minted automatically.

Is there a maturity period for migrated nodes?

No. Migration skips the maturity period—you can delegate immediately.

What if my legacy node is still maturing?

You must wait until its maturity period is over to migrate.

Can I migrate a node that was recently transferred or listed?

No. You must wait 4 hours after a transfer, and remove it from any marketplace listings before migrating.

 Staking & Boost

How do I stake VET?

Choose a node tier (e.g., Strength, Thunder), stake the required amount of VET, and receive an NFT representing your stake.

What is the maturity period?

After staking, each NFT has a fixed maturity period based on its tier (e.g., 30 days for Strength). During this time, you can’t delegate or earn rewards.

What is Boost?

Boost lets you skip the maturity period by paying a VTHO fee. You can boost immediately when staking, or anytime during maturity. The fee is burned.

How is the Boost fee calculated?

The fee is based on estimated rewards during the maturity period, calculated as:

 (VTHO/day + Base Rewards/day) × Days of Maturity × 0.5

How do I track my staking progress

You can monitor your staking activity and manage your stake at any time through the portfolio section of the StarGate app after connecting your wallet. To see the progress of each staking NFT, simply click on it.

Delegation & Rewards

How do I start earning rewards?

Once your NFT matures (or is boosted), select an active or queued validator to delegate to. Your NFT will start earning rewards from the validator’s next cycle.

Can I delegate to any validator?

You can only delegate to active or queued validators. Exited or exiting validators are not available.

Which criteria should I use when choosing a validator?

The criteria are determined by user preferences and the aspects they prioritise. The information presented to users includes a validator's APY, cycle duration, stake amount, number of delegations, and reliability score.

What is the validator cycle?

Each validator chooses a cycle duration (7, 15, or 30 days). Your delegation starts and ends with that cycle.

Do I have to manually renew delegation?

No. Auto-renew is on by default. Your NFT stays delegated unless you or the validator exits.

Can I change my validator?

Yes. You can:

  • Change immediately if your delegation is still pending

  • Exit and re-delegate after the current cycle if it’s active

When can I claim rewards?

Rewards are locked during each cycle and become claimable at the end. You can claim manually or automatically when exiting or unstaking.

 Validators

Who can become a validator?

Anyone who runs the Thor client, meets hardware requirements, and stakes 25 million VET.

How does validator onboarding work?

After staking and endorsement, validators join a 30-minute queue. If a slot opens, they become active in the next block cycle.

What do validators earn?

Validators receive:

  • 100% of transaction priority fees

  • Full block rewards if no delegators

  • 30% of block rewards if delegators are present (the rest goes to delegators)

Can I exit as a validator?

Yes. You can request exit, which takes effect at the end of the current cycle plus 24h cooldown. You can’t rejoin after exiting.

 NFT & Management

Can I transfer or sell my staking NFT?

Yes. Delegated or undelegated NFTs can be listed and sold on any VeChain-compatible marketplace. Rewards and staked VET are transferred with ownership.

Do transferred NFTs keep their delegation?

Yes. Delegation continues unless the validator exits. Locked and unclaimed rewards are inherited by the new owner.

What is a Node Manager?

A manager is a wallet you assign to perform limited actions on your NFT, like claiming rewards or accessing integrations (e.g., Discord, VeBetter). They cannot stake, unstake, transfer, or change validators.
